Yoga as soul work
The role of and understanding of what Yoga is has shifted many times in our culture since it was introduced by Swami Vivekananda in 1883. Its purpose, acceptability, and accessibility, to name a few things, have been ever changing since then. You could say there are as many different kinds of yoga as there are practitioners of it.
“What kind of yoga do you teach” is a very common question. I’ve had many answers over the years, but today I get to begin again. Although it’s old, yoga is a practice of living wisdom. That means that it can be as relevant today as it was when it began. And it’s relevance comes alive through the hearts and voices of those who practice. That’s you! You are making yoga come alive today with your active participation in awareness.
I teach yoga as a medium to do the soul work of coming home to yourself. I teach yoga to help you make connections with your light and find your voice. Through physical practice, we get the tools to unlock our courage to act in alignment with our true selves, and bring more of our magic to the world.
I'm hungry for the connection between soul work and bodywork and I use yoga as a bridge to gap that chasm. Wisdom, intelligence, and capacity for connection all reside within your cells. Your very cells are intelligent and thrive on love.
I'm fascinated with physical alignment because it can make us more capable and move us out of pain. However, I'm more interested in how you use what you've got to show up in the world. The question is not what can you do with your body, it's how do you inhabit your body as you move through your life? How are you courageous? As you are moving through the world, where is your awareness?
When you move your body consciously, you are tapping into the rhythm and cycles of the natural world. When I am aware of the pulsation of nature, I am reminded that I can reclaim my presence right now. I can start again today.
The equinox is a time of equal dark and light in the natural world. Practicing yoga is a way to embody your heart and more fully connect with the world around you. It is a tonic for the soul. You can unfold your beauty to the world, just like a rising sun, or a spring flower awakening in the rain.
How will you move into the next cycle of your life? You can start again today.
