Reasons to Move - Berlin ed.

We move to remember who we are.

Move to remind yourself that there is a whole world of treasure within you that has yet to be mined. Move to acquaint yourself with the light of your being. Move your body to know that light like you know the touch of your own hands. Move your body to shift the frame from who you think you are to what and who you truly are.

We move to imprint ourselves deeply with the practice of love.

Conscious movement, moving on purpose, or moving with purpose is one of the most effective ways of allowing the stress cycle to complete itself. (When the stress cycle is incomplete, it means that you, and your body are hanging out in a continual nervous system low-threat mode, which taxes your inner resources).

Move your body to replenish yourself and come alive inside.

When you move, it does not have to look like something in particular. Maybe you have a habit with it already. Maybe you are just beginning to turn the earth for planting a seed of health through movement. There is no one way to do this. At any moment, there is the possibility to connect with yourself through movement. Follow the path that bring you home.

I know that might sound obtuse for those who want a plan, a method, a fix it right now. The plan is, get in your body any way that you can. Allow yourself movement in places where it might not seem “normal”. Move your body a little bit more of the time.

I remember when I was 24 and living in the Costa Rican jungle. We had travelled to Panama or Nicaragua for visa renewal reasons. I was up on a shoddy balcony, summoning all of my courage so that I could do warrior 2, amongst other things, while locals stared up at the porch. If you have been told by your family, your culture, the media to stay small, then think of movement as an act of rebellion again smallness. Moving consciously means you have to take up space.

Move your body to learn to love yourself exactly as you are. You are enough.

When you feel stuck, move. When you are unsure what to do next, move. When you need an answer and have thought yourself in circles, move. When you are thriving with joy or grief, move your body to allow the passing emotions to greet the light of day. Move to celebrate your presence, your beautiful human existence, your expression of this life.

Move for you. Move for us all.
